buck mountain trail
Buck Mountain Trail is a 7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Kattskill Bay, New York that features a lake and is rated as moderate. It's a half-mile climb to the summit cul de sac, then a half-mile backtrack to the trailhead alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of Roanoke. Buck Mountain is a seldom reached summit near Glacier Peak, and can be reached by the Chiwawa River Road. In hot spring and summer days, thunderstorms may be more of a problem. To see Buck Creek at trail level, go right to reach the ford of the creek by the Buck Mountain Trail. Buck Mountain is a moderate hike on the east side of Lake George that features unparalleled views of the lake and mountains. There's not much of a view, but it's a good leg stretcher if you are traveling the Parkway and need a break. Tip: 4th of July! Longer than expected round trip, closer to 7 miles but we vered off here and there to take in some of the views. At milepost 123.2 is the Buck Mountain Overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The descent through mile 2 becomes steeper and has rocky sections with a few easy stream crossings. Luckily, the incline is not very steep.
